What does it all mean?

What does it all mean?

Have you been pondering the meaning of life? I have. With more and more crisis happening all around the world and the travesties that are occurring, diseases, disasters… it all leaves me feeling that so much of what we treasure might just actually be meaningless.

The more I hear of the world news, the less I want to eat lavishly, shop extravagantly, buy unnecessarily, spend time frivolously, have more material possessions, the latest this and the latest that… We take none of these things with us.  I find that ‘things’ are losing their meaning to me. I want to use my time so much more wisely, give where the needs are, pray for those suffering, use my influence for good in every way I can.

The things that used to hold some attraction have seriously become tarnished and the amount of waste in our lives is beginning to stick out like a sore thumb to me.

I am loving reading Ecclesiastes. I haven’t really read that book properly for a long time but its a perfect book of the bible to be going through at this time. Really its well worth a read just to hear King Solomon’s thought processes.

It’s about the meaning of life. Solomon, the wisest man, gives himself to the study of the meaning of life. The verse that kept coming to my mind, the verse which prompted me to read it was Ecclesiastes 1:2 “Vanity of vanities, says the preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.” One version of the bible puts it like this… vs 1 “Meaningless, meaningless, all is meaningless.”

I have found myself aligning with King Solomon in Ecclesiastes 1. I relate to his findings…He then proceeds to look at and try all kinds of things in life that he might find hope and meaning in…. but it all culminates in Chapter 12:13 as listed below…

All has been heard; the end of the matter is: Fear God [ revere and worship Him, knowing that He is] and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man [ the full, original purpose of his creation, the object of God’s providence, the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun] and the whole [ duty] for every man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good or evil. [Matt. 12:36; Acts 17:30, 31; Rom. 2:16; I Cor. 4:5. ]
For me the meaning of it all, the meaning of life, is eternal life.
The eternal not the temporal is what it’s all about.
The light being shone on all that is happening around us is really showing things up for what they are.

Ephesians 5:13-15

But when anything is exposed and reproved by the light, it is made visible and clear; and where everything is visible and clear there is light.

Therefore He says, Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall shine (make day dawn) upon you and give you light.

Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people),

Considering this topic is a great opportunity to share with people about the real meaning, the hope we have in the one who is eternal.

I think its very timely as we all need to consider what is the meaning of life?
What is really important?
What should we be doing?
What is eternal?

Think about it… what is meaningful to you?
