Thoughts on Evangelism and sharing the Gospel…
Sadly there are many times when we use different excuses for not actually having to talk to people about Jesus.
Yes, we can share our faith by being relational, and by being a good witness etc, I know because I used to say that.
I wasn’t comfortable with ‘straight out’ sharing my faith because it took me out of my comfort zone. I’m still not the best at it, I sometimes struggle to express myself, but now I know that I need to get out of my comfort zone, and I do my best to do that.
I used to say it’s not my gift. I am more a ‘such and such’, that’s not my ministry, but now I know its everyone’s ministry and responsibility. I don’t say that with a ‘side order of guilt’ or a ‘helping of condemnation’. I say it with encouragement and wanting to inspire you to find a more proactive way of sharing Him.
There is a quote you might have heard, ‘Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary.’, it is attributed to St Francis of Assi but in fact, he never said that. I knew there was a reason that I didn’t like that quote at all. I think we should try to find opportunities and different ways to bring Him into our conversation and share him with people as much as we can.
How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher?
~ Romans 10:14 ~
No, we shouldn’t bible bash. No, we shouldn’t shove it down anyone’s throat. We should know our audience, use wisdom and sensitivity at ALL TIMES.
We don’t have the luxury of endless time to share with people. Even if time was endless, peoples’ lives are not endless and neither is ours.
All we need to do is look around us, and we can plainly see that time is short. We MAY not have all the time in the world to slowly build a relationship and then share him. We need to find ways to share with people and be proactive to do so.
If you truly believe Jesus is coming back soon, then you are going to be feeling a sense of urgency to share your faith. That is probably the place to start!
