The Helper…

The powerful work of the Holy Spirit… 

“But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; 

but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

And He, when He comes, will convict the world about [the guilt of] sin [and the need for a Savior],

and about righteousness, and about judgment: about sin [and the true nature of it], because they do not believe in Me [and My message];

about righteousness [personal integrity and godly character], because I am going to My Father and you will no longer see Me; 

about judgment [the certainty of it], because the ruler of this world (Satan) has been judged and condemned. 

“I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear [to hear] them now. But when He, the Spirit of Truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth [full and complete truth].

For He will not speak on His own initiative, but He will speak whatever He hears [from the Father–the message regarding the Son], and He will disclose to you what is to come [in the future].

He will glorify and honour Me because He (the Holy Spirit) will take from what is Mine and will disclose it to you. All things that the Father has are Mine. Because of this, I said that He [the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you.”

I’m reading this again with a fresh understanding. The Holy Spirit is here. When Jesus left, in bodily form, He sent the Holy Spirit… to be in close fellowship with us. 

I need to be more aware of the Holy Spirit. I tend to focus on Jesus and the Father. The Holy Spirit was sent especially to us for many reasons. I think I have been neglecting this ‘close’ fellowship, the benefits of this. 

Lord make me consciously aware of the presence of the Holy Spirit with me and around me. Close fellowship means we are apart of each other’s lives. I want the Holy Spirit intricately involved in my life, in every waking, and even in every sleeping moment. 

Holy Spirit. The Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor–Counselor, Strengthener, Standby). 
I need you. 
People everywhere need you. 

It is the role of the Holy Spirit, not myself, my example, or my words that will convict the world of sin and the need of a Saviour. 

My words mean nothing without the work of the Holy Spirit. How could I think to even take a step without the presence of the Holy Spirit? Not that I do, but how could I think to achieve anything without the Holy Spirit. 

The only thing that will convict the world and show them their need for a Saviour is the Holy Spirit. 

Holy Spirit fall afresh on me. 
Holy Spirit forgive me of all my sin and unrighteousness. Cleanse be thoroughly and make me a vessel for your use. I humble myself before you and I thank you that you can use the weak and foolish things of this world to confound the wise. 

Holy Spirit… may people awaken to the greatest need of their life, the greatest need that they never knew that had. Let it be an ache that they become aware of, that can only be filled by the Saviour of their souls. 

Holy Spirit you intimately know each one, every ‘in and out’ of their life. Draw people to their knees that they would call out to you. The Saviour of their soul.

Lord so many see themselves as great, as good, as sufficient. It’s the greatest deceptive message of our times. Holy Spirit convict people of righteousness. There would never be enough righteousness in any of us that could save us from coming judgment. 

Lord, please open hearts and eyes to see this. It’s such folly to think of ourselves as righteous. Our humanity is weak, flawed, and lacking the substance of your righteousness and holiness. 

Lord lead all people to their knees, to surrendering themselves wholly to you and to declare their dependence on you and on no other.

Lord remind people that you took their sin upon yourself. You made the way open by the covering of the sacrifice of your blood so that they would not have to face the consequences of judgement but when their name is read, the account would have already been settled by you. 

Lord the promise is this, that the Holy Spirit would guide all into full and complete truth. 
The precious message regarding the Son. 
The certainty that you have given us time to make ourselves right with you by, gratefully accepting the gift of the sacrifice of the Son. 

“[the Spirit] will take from what is Mine and will reveal it to you.”

Lord this is my most earnest prayer for all. That the Holy Spirit would reveal your truth to each person’s heart and life.
