“Do this, knowing that this is a critical time.
It is already the hour for you to awaken from your sleep [of spiritual complacency];
for our salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed [in Christ].
The night [this present evil age] is almost gone
and the day [of Christ’s return] is almost here.
So let us fling away the works of darkness and put on the [full] armor of light.”
Wow, it can’t get any clearer than that can it? This verse carries my passionate plea perfectly, to one and all! Hear the cry, heed the call, look into your heart and spirit and awaken from your slumber.
How much more critical can it get before we wake up and realize what day and hour it is?
For many many many years I was asleep. I really had no idea of the significance of the mission Jesus had called us to, let alone the one he had called me to. I am sad when I realize this, but I know God has grown me into this calling. He knew who I was and who I would become and also when the time was right.
It is a critical time…
Who could deny this? Critical is a poignant word. This describes the state of the world for “those who will see”. There’s more than enough that won’t. For those that want it’s like marching your whole armed forces unit off a cliff because you didn’t or wouldn’t look where you were going.
Everything is lining up and in its place. The days, the times, the seasons, the signs, the prophecies. It’s as clear as day right now! I am left in no doubt, but if you’re oblivious you could easily wonder what the heck I’m
It is the time to awaken…
Every now and then some crazy thing happens in the world that forces us to notice the state of affairs before we quickly rebury our head deep in the sand.
Will you dare to lift up your eyes and see?
Sleeping is comfortable, it’s relaxing, it’s easy, you’re eyes are shut so you don’t have to ignore things because you don’t have to see them.
By now I’d say you’ve probably slept through your alarm, and it’s been put on ‘snooze’ a few times if you’re still asleep.
You see it might be easy but you will definitely regret the lie in.
If it were today if it were tomorrow or next week would you have used your opportunities to share with the ones you hold dearest? Will they share in eternity with you?
Our salvation is nearer…
Yes, it is nearer… however most people live in the land of ‘afar off’. It always seems like there’ll be another time, another chance, another divine moment. But if we blink we could even miss it!
I can say for sure that my salvation is nearer than I first believed. I used to think it was years away from that great day of the Lord.
But thankfully after my wake up call came a few years ago I had a shock. When my back was turned centuries away became decades and decades are becoming years and now I can imagine it could even be tomorrow.
The night is almost gone…
The night, the present evil age is gone. I can think of only one thing better and that’s my family, friends, as many people as possible knowing the Father and meeting him in eternity.
The day is almost here…
Jesus is coming back. The time is almost up. We may not know the day nor the hour but we know the signs and the seasons.
Let us fling away…
What is really important?
What is not important?
Fling it all away.
What holds true meaning?
So many things around me have lost their meaning. In light of eternity and knowing the times and seasons so much is useless, meaningless, trivial, disposable, breakable to me.
Let us let go of all the things that hold us back, hold us up, stop us from going forward, take up our time with no real purpose. This verse specifically speaks of flinging away works of darkness. There is no time like the present to do this. Will we be ready? Will we be found waiting? Will we be found in His service or in our armchair?
“For you, yourselves know perfectly well that the day of the [return of the] Lord is coming just as a thief [comes unexpectedly and suddenly] in the night.
While they are saying, “Peace and safety [all is well and secure!]” then [in a moment unforeseen] destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains on a woman with child, and they will absolutely not escape [for there will be no way to escape the judgment of the Lord].
But you, believers, [all you who believe in Christ as Savior and acknowledge Him as God’s Son] are not in spiritual darkness [nor held by its power], that the day [of judgment] would overtake you [by surprise] like a thief; for you are all sons of light and sons of day.
We do not belong to the night nor to darkness. So then let us not sleep [in spiritual indifference] as the rest [of the world does], but let us keep wide awake [alert and cautious] and let us be sober [self-controlled, calm, and wise].
For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk get drunk at night. But since we [believers] belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet, the hope and confident assurance of salvation.”
