When I think of all the emotional upheavals that came with being a teenager and those during adolescence, not to mention the things that we were going through as we were growing up, I can tell you now for certain I would never want to go through all of that again.
Do you remember that ‘heart pain’ that you felt deep on the inside, the ankst, the insecurity and confusion? Everything felt so vital, but yet it was only a piece in the puzzle.
At around that age I think there must be some chemical or hormone that is being released inside you that elevates every emotion to a heightened sense.
From the time that these difficult lessons start is the beginning of a major part of the making of who you will be. You begin to sense different things in your life causing you pain, and perhaps they shouldn’t, you realise that you are in the position to make difficult life decisions and make them for yourself, you feel different from everyone else, you wonder if there is something wrong with you, you compare yourself with others, you dont know what to do in certain situations, you don’t know how to confront someone, or maybe you don’t know how to control feelings or anger, you don’t know what you want, you don’t know what is right for you anymore and you begin to wish that you were a child again. This is when the process of making of who you will be is happening.
Some people say “if I could do that all over again I’d do this”. You’ll never hear those words coming out of my mouth. I’m very thankful for all the things that I have been through because they helped me grow, taught me so much, and made me who I am today but I would never want to go through all of that again, if I had the choice to do it.
The good news is that you will get through it and its making who you are going to be. The ‘better’ you learn your lessons the ‘better’ person you will be.
It seems like it goes on forever, it extends into your early 20’s and even into your 30’s and then somewhere along the way hopefully life begins to settle, you find that things seem a lot clearer to you, you know how to react in circumstances and you know what you want for your life. And you realise that every tough lesson was forming who you were becoming.
If I could talk to my younger self I would explain all this and hope that she would really get a hold of what I am explaining. Perhaps she would embrace some of the growing stages knowing that this would be her making if she made the right choices and then she would be very pleased with the outcome.
No, I really didn’t know that back then, but thankfully, I am very pleased with the outcome of who I am.
And that is a wonderful goal to obtain in your life!
So my advice is learn your lesson well and don’t prolong them. Deal with things rather than avoiding them. It’s hard now but it will make it easier later. You are becoming yourself, and you can help create the best version of yourself that is possible.
Let go Never give up Hold on Think before you speak You ARE worth it!
In the big scheme of things this is only a hiccup You can do it Why not?
Take another step It won’t be so bad I can start again Work through the pain
Tough it out Go easy on yourself You will feel better in the morning
This too will pass Look at the bigger picture Get some advice
